Bed Bug Bite Treatment

If you notice red, itchy marks on your body they may be caused by bed bugs, but fortunately bed bug bite treatment can help to eliminate the symptoms that are caused by these bites. Many kids remember their parents repeating the popular quote “good night, don’t let the bedbugs bite” and thought these little creatures were made up. Unfortunately they are not and they can be found, as you may have guessed, in your beds, sheets, furniture, luggage and other areas. These annoying creatures feed on human blood and mostly come out at night so they are quite hard to detect.

When these tiny creatures bite into your skin you usually don’t feel much, but you might wake up in the morning with red, itchy blotches. There is no treatment specifically for bed bug bites, but there are treatments for the redness, inflammation and itchiness associated with it. The first thing you should remember if you are bitten by these bugs is not to scratch the area, This is going to be hard because it will be itchy, but you must try to resist the urge as scratching will only inflame the area and cause further irritation.

Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide

Dip a cotton ball in either hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol and use it to wipe the affected area. These will help with the irritation and inflammation and will also clean the area of any bacteria, which may have gotten into broken skin while you were scratching the bites.

Creams

Hydrocortisone creams can be very useful in helping to ease the itch and inflammation associated with bed bug bites.  Just rub a little of the cream on the affected area and you will feel better in a matter of minutes. There are several other types of over the counter creams that you can ask for at your local pharmacy.

Calamine Lotion

Some of you may have never heard of calamine lotion, but it is very helpful in treating symptoms of bed bug bites. This is lotion is not very hard to find if you know what to look for, it is pink and also comes in a pink bottle and has a thick, creamy texture. It is used to help soothe the skin when it becomes irritated. It should be used on the affected area at least three times each day and you will notice that it stops the itching and dries out the nasty looking bumps.

Water

If the affected body part becomes swollen, water can be very useful in minimizing the swelling. You can either choose to run the area under a faucet of cold water or put a few ice cubes in a rag and hold in on the bite for at least 20 minutes. This bed bug bite treatment is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
